As most of you know, Bandcamp is what I use to distribute my music to all of you fine folks. I absolutely love it and the control it gives me over how I get my music to you. The name-your-price option has been great. Bandcamp did change one important policy recently regarding free downloads (or downloads that fans choose to pay $0 for). Read about it here, but basically I only have a certain number of free downloads to offer to you, and when those run out, I can either buy more or let my songs automatically change over to “paid” songs. I totally understand Bandcamp’s reasoning for doing this, they have their costs associated with giving us this great service. The kicker here is that one download can be either a single song, or an album. In other words… you download one album from me, that only counts as one download. But if you download all the songs from the Ambient Songs album, that counts as 15 downloads.
Lately I’ve noticed a lot of people downloading my songs one at a time. This seems like a huge pain for you the downloader, and also hurts my downloads. So here’s the deal: nothing has changed with album downloads. They are all still name-your-price with a zero minimum. Single songs, however, are now a minimum of $1 to download. This will hopefully get people to download the whole album (and save them a lot of hassle), and also save me some download credits.
The one exception is for the Ambient Songs album. Since I am occasionally adding songs to that album, I will always leave the latest song available as a free download, so that you don’t have to re-download the whole thing just to get the new song. Speaking of that, here is the latest Ambient Song, just uploaded a few days ago:
I hope this all this makes sense. I’m just trying to make it simpler for you! Thank you guys for all your support.
