Hi Andrew. Very interesting post, and mostly I agree with you 100%, but you know what? I've known about Mr. The Edge's (Dave's) picking technique for years — read about it in some guitar rag. What struck me was that I had been doing the same thing for a very long time before I knew this. I use a Herco flex 50. And like Edge, I use the dimples made for gripping the pick to add a fricative sound to the attack. But what is nice about the Herco picks is that the dimples don't go all the way to the edge (heh!), so it's not quite so scratchy sounding. Plus, compared with the Herdim picks, they are dead cheap.

Weird man, I just bought these picks too to try something different! I actually dont mind them. Now, how will I be able to use them in a live setting, playing worship music? I have no idea. But they're super fun to record with to get that Edge vibe going.

If you don't want the Mr. The Edge picks anymore, I would love to try one out and see what the hype is all about. Personally though, I have joined the Gravity pick bandwagon. They take an awesome sounding guitar and make it absolutely sparkle.

I spent $20 on Herdim picks and lost them all. lol I liked the yellow the best. I can use them on the side for that chime and still be me... It's just another tool in the palate. What is sorta funny is I didn't start listening to the Edge until people starting telling me I reminded them of the Edge. lol How I never listened to U2 until now is beyond me, I just haven't been into popular music that much. I'd say don't be afraid to use it bro, it's just another tool... and I like your music btw. Keep being Mr. The Othling

I wouldn't use Mr. The Edge's picks simply because you can't buy them in stores. I want to hold the pick, caress its curves, and test its point before I buy it. I want to know what it feels like between my fingers. texture and touch means a lot to me, so if I can only get it on line then its not going to happen. I need that moment, however fleeting where it is in my hand. In that single moment I know if I want the pick or not.

I love almost everything about Mr. The Edge, but his word is not enough. I might try something because he recommends it, but I will try it myself long before I buy it. So its off to Mass Street Music for some more Jazz III's

Good thoughts man.

nice post. i actually don't own an overdrive, but i do have a nice fuzz. until i can get around to buying a good overdrive, i just turn the champ up to 6. but those matchless amps are something, huh? i've heard nothing but good things about them.
